IMHO With all the 'limited Geography' of the BOM stuff, I think the prophet is trying to get the 'Spirit' of the BOM into us to prepare us for future challenges.

I've read the Book of Mormon countless times. If I hadn't, I might feel differently. But now I'm doing the D&C.

When we go to the Book of Mormon in SS, I will do that then. I have too much to do. Do not give me one more thing to do.

Don, I hear ya. A lot of people I've talked to are really enthusiastic (for lack of a better word)about this. Me, not so much.

Don't get me wrong, I'm reading the BOM but I've decided the time limit thing works better for me than the 10 pages a day goal.

I had a Bishop challenge us to read a half hour a day for a few months. I took up the challenge and was surprised at how much more I got out of the BOM by doing it. I guess I'll get back to it.

"the Prophet thinks we as a people are neglecting it"

Agreed. That doesn't mean, however, that I specifically am neglecting it. I can't be. I'm reading it. Just not at a breakneck pace.

Doesn't Pres. Hinckley know that Bushman's biography is coming out soon? I've been waiting a year for it to come out, and now I'm supposed to put off diving into it until I finish the BofM again?

To paraphrase Spanky from The Little Rascals, "I'll do it, but I won't like it."

(I guess I should explain that. Spanky said he didn't like mush. His father told him, "You'll eat it and you'll like it." Spanky replied, "I'll eat it, but I won't like it." It's just something that stuck with me from when I was a kid.)

I suspect because a testimony requires constant maintance to maintain. For some reason I can't fathom, the Prophet thinks we as a people are neglecting it. I felt like Kim felt having read the Book of Mormon at least 50 times cover to cover in my life. Yet, looking back, I realize it has been far too many years since I did this last. Perhaps there is something I could gain? Something affecting my spirituality?

I fail to see how reading the Book of Mormon this time will provide any greater blessings than the last time I read it. I also fail to see how I will receive additional benefits from reading it faster than I am now.

Kim,
I feel the same way with many of the same reasons as you do as to why NOT to re-read it. I just finished a fundamental scripture study class last semester and one of the main points driven into us was that we should not fit into this cliche that predominates in the church to have the goal of finishing. We get so worked up about finishing the book by such and such date or wanting to read a chapter a night or something like that.
Instead, we were encouraged to read for a minimum time limit (at least 20 minutes, or whatever we felt comfortable with) this way we could dig into the text instead of feeling we shouldn't ponder too long or we might not finish. This opened up a LOT to me in my personal study (much like studying on the mission).
However, in this instance, I personally am going to do as I am told and hold the prophet to his word and EXPECT some blessings from doing so:)

I'm doing it, and enjoying it very much. My results thus far: Nephi could really be a jerk sometimes.
