IF I ever get hooked up again, I think I'll start a new account with a new gamertag that actually fits ME (not my roommate, jonnylawless) That way I can learn all these new levels too.
Any ideas on a good gamertag name?
Russ,
Have you guys started playing clan matches then? Is it still Mormon Mafia?

Sweet Jeffrey, now I know how to beat you when we play. And let me know when the LSAT is over.

Right now I'm studying for the LSAT, but starting Oct. it's on like Donkey Kong.

Eric,

When you are playing where everybody has swords, you should run backwards away from somebody who is chasing you and whenever you are ready suddenly move towards them (when they don't expect it) turning the target red when you and not your opponenet wants. If you can get somebody to fall for this by getting them to chase you, you will win everytime.

Ah, thanks for the tip on the swords. That makes sense now. I was playing with some friends who had the x-box, I fear that if I had one it would be the end of me. Like when I had Starcraft installed and networked in our apartment complex. I eventually had delete it from my hard drive completely. I still get cravings to this day. These things are like crack.

Eric,
I think you just voiced the exact same frustrations every Halo beginner has, especially the sword thing. The trick to the swords is you have to wait a fraction of a second for your target to turn red, then hit the trigger, you can jump from like 15 feet away and kill in one swing. It's not about the hacking, it's the single thrust.

Trust me, I still feel the same way as you when I play guys that are way better than me. I'm constantly thinking they are cheating. Like with the shotgun, I can NEVER kill guys with the shotgun, but they always get me with one shot. It's maddening! Some of these 8 year olds that play online must do it for a living or something because they can be running across the board, jump in the air, and nail you from across the board with the sniper.

I guess that's why I play with friends, we're all pretty equal and we don't swear (most of the time :). Do you have an xbox or were you just playing with a friend's?

Eric,

In most FPS games the insiders have not only honed their skills on previous similar games, but have probably played through the entire single player mode in that particular game. If you had put the same amount of time into it you'd be great.

I used to play Quake 2 once in a while with the guys in the office, all of whom thought they were pretty good from playing Doom. I would cream them. They were shocked to find out that I would go online and basically get beat up on for 30 minutes solid before getting sick of it.

The difficult part of being a newbie is finding a safe place to practice without spending all day waiting to come back to life.

Rusty, you know I'd be there with you anytime, had I the x-box.

Tell you what, though -- you bring that bad boy over, we'll hook it up to my new 50" TV and I will SCHOOL you.
