My favorite is the fact that someone is using my legitimate work email address in the from field to send out spam, and I regularly get bounces from bad addresses.

Spammers should go to jail.

I especially love those chain email stories about some cute little tyke in grade school who, with a most unchildlike command of grammar, trustingly and sweetly asks his teacher a “simple question” that rocks the teacher’s world and just goes to show that the Republican party is true after all.

Add the reading and forwarding of these kind of emails to regular listening to right-wing talk radio and daily viewing of Jerry Springer, and you’ve got yourself a trifecta for the ideal American citizen.

I get about two or three recorded phone messages a week offering satellite TV and better mortgage deals. My apartment has neither a mortgage nor access to satellites.

I probably get more than my share because I have about five different email aliases that all map to me which all art overtly clickable in various web pages. This means that all the email harvesters pick me up fairly regularly. So I get over 1500 spam messages a day - most thankfully caught by my filters.

The ones that get through which I hate are the misspelling emails. You know, the ones that go,

VI_zAGRA $3, 35
VA_zLIUM $1, 20
AM_zBIEN $2, 90
CI_zALIS $3, 75
XA_zNAX $1, 45

We emailed a photo of a missionary to his mother a year ago, and she sent us a thank you…and a steady flow of crap ever since. It’s mostly cute animal pictures, which I politely asked her to stop sending. But a few weeks ago she sent us a chain email asking us to fast for Iraq last Sunday. A rant and tirade ensued.

I have a friend who has a blog where he posts all the spam he gets. It starts to get kind of artistic after awhile. Sort of like when you watch several episodes of CSI: Miami in a row, and you start to think David Caruso is actually kind of entertaining.
