Makes me want to go to church again. I'd go every Sunday if all we did was sing hymns. :)

That's cool. I saw this mentioned somewhere else recently, can't remember where now. I wish our Bishopric would start doing it. I guess I'll have to mention it.

My favorite hymn is #29, but it's not worth it unless you sing all of the verses. (A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief)

I also love the creation hymns.

When I was in our Bishopric this idea was my-back-pocket save in case the speakers biffed me for some reason. I only had to go there once when a family called me sick the night before they were supposed to speak.

"Oh, that I were an Angel" for the record was never a hymn, but a lovely song based on Alma 29:1 nonetheless.

Yeah, I'd LOVE to have a meeting like this. Do you make sure there are different songs every year or no? It'd be great to do something that gets people to expand their hymnal horizons by coming to learn and appreciate more songs they are not familiar with. Some of my lesser known favorites include #115 "Come Ye Disconsolate" and #9 "Come, Rejoice."

I almost think "Come Thou Fount" has gained in popularity since it was taken out of the hymnbook. Still, you have not really heard it till you hear the Mack Wilburg arrangement.

Some I wish were in the hymnbook: "Amazing Grace," "What Child is This?" anything in a minor or modal key and "When First the Glorious Light of Truth."
