David: I don’t like the moniker, “The Plan of Happiness.” I much prefer “Plan of Salvation.”

What's the substantive difference between to the two? Isn't lasting misery really what we are hoping to be saved from to begin with?

I know it's in the BofM but I agree that it sounds like marketing more than doctrine.

Cannot agree more, David. I'm not against everything Deseretbook does/sells but I'm with you on that one as well. (speaking of that, you should all by the game Hagoth: Builder of Ships. Best Mormon board game ever, which I know isn't saying much but it's true:) I think that's why Pres. Hinckley's comments about taking all the good you have and seeing if we can add to it is so much more appropriate.

David, I think you're still behind the curve. I believe it is now properly referred to as "the great plan of happiness."

Tstevens :)

My friend had a cousin who'd lost a little girl--I can't remember the illness. Anyway, she came back to visit the dad and he asked "Is the church true?" And she said, "well, over here we call it the plan."

"everyone pretends to be happy."

Once in Sunday school it was said that because non'lDS were not married in the temple their marriages were not truly happy, or good for that matter, That really bothered me especially since quite a few there had pretty hollow marriages themselves. I think it is related to pride and the great downfall that awaits us.

As for happiness my favorite quote:
You can't say happiness without saying penis.
