One of my favorite books is “Reflections of a Scientist” by his father. I love his tone of “there’s a lot I don’t understand, but it doesn’t really matter.” I ask God why he didn’t have one more kid and why couldn’t it be me?

Elder Eyring has long been one of my favorites. Before he was an apostle he was assigned to our stake for conference. Then less than a year later, he was assigned to the stake to which we had moved in the meantime. I’ve looked forward to hearing him speak ever since.

I found as a high councilor I’d try to incorporate some of his techniques into my talks, especially the positive personal experience and the suggestion, “Perhaps you’ve felt … while I was speaking today…” He nearly always gets me to make a personal connection to whatever he says.
