Actually, you may resume blaming feminism. If it weren’t for feminists your wife would still be considered your property and you could do what you like with your account, because you would own her and her privacy and could do with it as you pleased. She’d have no right to object to you making changes to an account with your name, because you would own her name. So the feminist-nazi-loving company is clearly to blame.

My grandmother couldn’t get a checking account without a male signing for it (Argentina 1946).
I manage all our finances. I’m used to having to get him on the phone to ok me talking about his 401K or whatever. Feminists didn’t cause this. It is just now equal both ways.

Welcome to the world of women, Rusty, we’ve had to get permission for decades. What makes men so special that they shouldn’t have to deal with this stomach ache? I stupidly set up a lot of our accounts in Bill’s name, monitor them, manage them, make sure they get paid, but if there’s a problem, he has to give me permission to talk to them because he has no clue what’s going on.

I deal with this in my job as well. Women will usually shrug off a request for permission from the account owner. Men go ballistic.

Recently I went to check one of my husband’s health insurances claims online and couldn’t find it. I contacted customer service directly. They told me that because he is an adult (over 18) he has the right to his privacy, HIPAA laws and all. I can’t access his health information online with our insurance without his consent.

So, should I blame that on feminism too?

I think it’s both Rusty. I think it is a realization that, though married, the wife is no longer considered property of the husband, i.e. she is a separate entity with equal rights as the man. And in the past, the wife was indeed considered less than equal to the man she was married to.

are you seriously going to tell me that every joint account you’ve opened with your wife you have both had access from the get-go?

Yes. I don’t recall any problem like this happening with a joint account. If it’s truly a joint account with both names on it then either person should have full privileges on the account. If that isn’t happening, then it’s not truly a joint account or it was set up without including both names on the signature card or something.

More than one bank has done things for my wife related to our joint account (without my express written consent)that they wouldn’t do for me (without her express written consent).

I’ve always thought it was strange, too.
