I've had similar disappointments, all too often.
I really like what John Mansfield said, if I were a pillow embroider-er that would be on my list for embroidered pillow-hood.

Once on my mission I found myself eating with a family who believed that drinking caffeinated soda should keep a person out of the temple. Oh the thoughts that came into my mind. "I guess my father, who happens to be my bishop, will have to hand over his recommend and my mission president too!" These thoughts I kept to myself but to this day I have a hard time not making harsh judgements on this family when I think of them. I have even imagined them at the judgement day being pained because of what they said and believed. Its actually hilarious how ironic our judgements are!

You guys read Rusty's post again. He said it first.

Oops, no he didn't. Well, I think I'll use it anyway. I must read more carefully, I'm still in Brokeback Mountain mode.

Now I'm laughing, too.

Rolling on the floor laughing, AnneGB. That's an awesomely non-sequiturly funny retort. :)

John C.,

It may be a non-sequitur, but hey, at least she's not sleeping with Holly!

"The next time somebody gripes at me, I'm going to say, "well, at least I'm not sleeping with Holly.""

???

That may be the king of all non-sequitors and I don't even know Holly

Why is it so many religions fall into the period clothing trap? How does it happen? How do some religions avoid it?

How does the old joke go? We'd worry much less over what people think about us if we realized how seldom they do?

I do this all the time. Usually, though, I will have to jumpstart the thought process with a subtle comment; then let the witty comments commence! As to former members and obsession with the church, I think it's because the church is terribly interesting, whether you agree with it or not.

Ann,
That's hilarious. It seems that people care a lot more in our minds than in reality. This could be, in fact, what accounts for much of the ill-will towards the church by former members.
