You’re right about that, of course. The context of this post was within the Church and church service, but yes, the Mormon Church clearly doesn’t have a monopoly on the Good People.

There are definitely people like that at church, and they are amazing. But the best example of what you describe that I’ve ever seen is my parents, and they aren’t LDS.

I think the reason these “good people” don’t seek recognition is they know we are all only made good through the grace of JC. In other words, they know the glory for their strength lies elsewhere.

Those are the people who raise their hands for a Priesthood assignment, when I’m wiping the dust off my shoes.

They are examples for all of us – I’m glad we have them in our ward too.

I met one of the Good People in Las Vegas. He seems like just another cowboy from Lehi, UT. His hometeachee needed to renew his Driver’s License. The kicker was that the hometeachee had a California Driver’s License and needed to drive a few hours to get to the DMV. The Lehite took five hours of his Saturday to drive with his hometeachee to Barstow to renew the license. That’s just one of many instances of service in his life. Good People.

I call these people minutemen, mostly women, because I could call them at any time to take a meal or help clean or move.

Every ward needs some.
