Guys, again I am just a nonMormon outsider but I appreciate Dave’s opening comment on this thread. I have had tons of discussions with friends, been to many LDS funerals, etc. but from a practical standpoint seen little really heart discussion on Christ himself, though His name is on chapels throughout my city.

Now lest I be a hypocritical ranter, there is open invitation by all to rebuke me where I am not Christ-centered.

Dave, I’m not sure that when Jesus’ name isn’t mentioned they aren’t still talking Jesus. I know some heap on the Church and sacrament meetings on this. But seriously, there is a point to the gospel and it is ultimately a practical one: changing our lives and saving our souls. I get more annoyed and constant repetition of stories we all know just to ensure we’re discussing Jesus or the restoration. I’m much more concerned at motivating myself to change and helping myself over the practical matters.

I know you didn’t mean that observation in negative terms. It’s just that I’m very much of the practical Brigham Young mode. As he said there’s a time for preaching and a time for potatoes. More particularly I think where we, as a people, fall down often is in the practical aspects of the gospel.

On reflection, I was maybe a little snippy in comment no. 1. What I meant was that even in the Church people tend to reflect a lot on the medium (the Church as an institution) as opposed to the message (the substantive features of the Gospel). Thus it is not surprising that we online Mormons tend to reflect on the medium (the B’nacle or the larger online LDS community) as well as on the substantive discussion of the Church and gospel topics.

I will refrain from claiming, “It’s all about community.” I think part of it, not all of it, is about community. Looking back at the original post, I’d say mostly gospel discussion, with an occasional Bloggernacle discussion thrown in from time to time.

Dave has an excellent point, of course one might well consider that the Church is the body of Christ, as we know it the confirmed body of Christ, composed of confirmed members.

Dave, I hadn’t noticed that. I think they’re talking about life and life is all about the gospel or vice versa.

Dave, that is indeed interesting and I think you’re right.

HP & Don, actually this isn’t a response to anything specific, it’s just something that I’ve noticed recently. I’m not necessarily saying it’s bad, I mean, I’m just as guilty as anyone else.

Susan, I know, this post itself is a perpetuation of the exact problem :)

So Rusty, you don’t like my last two posts…too bloggernacle, not enought gospel? What should we discuss, “Can God create a rock so big He can’t lift it?” Or are we stuck with Faith, Repentence, Baptism, and the H.G.?

Or is your time line just an observation and it’s ok to keep on doing what we’re doing…and death will come?!
