lamonte,
Don't be suprised to see a follow up of this post called, "Why we have more in common with the atheists than with the evangelicals."I really believe that.

CJ - excellent points that go along with what I believe is a total misconception about the church. I think the world believes us to be mindless followers of a group of old men who live in Salt Lake City. When in reality our church, and specifically our doctrine, allow great freedom in so many aspects of our life. I guess what I'm trying to say is that many people outside the church look at a practice like the Word of Wisdom and say, "How can you live with so many restrictions in your life?" When we know, in our hearts that WE are the ones that have freedom - freedom from addiction, freedom from poor health, etc. Likewise, the doctrine that you site is an indication of a truly loving Father who gives us so many avenues to gain salvation and, as Rob said, only those who truly love Satan will be the ones that are lost. We even teach that all those evangelicals who claim we will burn in hell will still have a chance for salvation. What a beautiful concept.

Yes Rob, another point that is lost on the world. I am just astounded as to why this info is not the first thing we teach to investigators. Most people believe this anyway inspite of their religion.

Bret,
I guess you could call it our own version of limbo. Although in general I have a hard time comparing our view of the after life with anything taught in catholisism. Its kind of a sore spot with me.

Don't forget that even the wicked who lived wicked lives can be forgiven in the spirit worl and go on to perfection in all things through the grace of Christ- That leaves just the openly rebellious who love satan more than God to burn in the end!

Great points, CJ. I wish we would talk about mercy and grace in such a way at church more often. (along with the differences between the two)
CS Lewis (I know, I know, we over-quote him in the church) once commented regarding grace and works that we couldn't distingush which was more important than he could which blade on a pair of scissors is.

So would you say we believe in our own version of Limbo?

CJ,
Yeah man. We're crazy for thinking God would want us to become like Him someday, but they're not crazy to think that God is okay with damning the ignorant. Brilliant.
