Maryanne-
You have a good point. I don't think anyone should stand by and let our world be filled with hate and pain just because it's been prophesied to happen.

My point was that when God says something will happen, it does. So, yeah, when you say that the wicked punish the wicked, that could totally be it. God allows bad things to happen; this was probably one of them. But it was still going to happen. I don't think Mormon would have written it otherwise.

I cannot think that it was God's will that the Spanish killed off the Incan (and many other) civilizations. Perhaps they were "wicked", but isn't it often by the wicked that the wicked are punished? It was prophesied, but "it had to happen"? I don't think so. If people were loving and kind, truly saw other people as their brothers and sisters... yes, it doesn't usually happen that way, but the attitude that wholesale destruction is inevitable makes it seem like we shouldn't even try to avoid horrible things like this.

Seth, maybe it's safe to say that God was with neither? But then, I'm not sure that's right, either.

Rusty, the banner truly is great. You are either very talented, or very bored!

Trickier question is whether the Friar was correct, and God really was with the Spaniards that day.

Kind of how like you might say God was with Nebuchadnezzar when he sacked Jerusalem.

Hmmm....

Rusty, we can't all be HTML nerds.

<em>So, in that way, although quite sad, Pizzaro was correct in stating it was the will of God. </em>

Maybe. I don't know. I don't think that everything that is prophesied is God's will. It's a tricky question. Was it prophesied because it was what God wanted to happen or was it prophesied because it's what He knew would happen? I tend toward the latter.

Now the whole site is block quoted. If some people would learn a little basic HTML then the rest of us wouldn't have to suffer.

Wasn't this prophesied? [Mormon 5:19-20] So, in that way, although quite sad, Pizzaro was correct in stating it was the will of God.

I have to agree with mondo cool; this does make the whole "allegorical" stuff seem more real.
