I think what God would say a lot are things like "If you are sure that's what you want" or "Well i think you'll get hurt that way but if you insist". It isn't always about that he knows things or not. He is great enough to still allow people to make their own choices. Also if you look at many of the conversations people have it isn't about big insightful things. people chitchat about the latest soap or about the new cloths they bought last weekend. So i think you could talk to God as a dad.

I often think God has no clue how I feel and if he does, he doesn't care.

I've just now decided to make Jesus my Higher Power and it's really been enlightening how much love I let in that way.

I've often been at a loss for what I should do in a particular situation as a parent, and I try to think how God would deal with it, since he is, after all, technically, a parent himself. Then I remember that if I parented my children the way God parents me, I'd be a pretty crappy parent. Not that God is a crappy parent (hard to argue that point, as you say), but he's not a human parent, so his job is very different from mine. Also, he's not beholden to state laws.

I was thinking about a simalar thing today from a different angle. I was thinking about how Heavenly Father views his children and how if we looked at his children the same way as our Heavenly Father how would our relationship's be different in our own families and to all people in general.

As to being a mortal parent that could be so good or so bad depending upon our own behavior. I remember thinking, when I was a teenager, that I would love my children so much and teach them so well that they would not fight or quarrel with each other. I must have been forgetting their own agency and I hadn't experienced the fatigue factor that comes with being a parent.
