Welcome To The New Nine Moons

Rusty - June 11, 2005

Hi all. Welcome to the new Nine Moons. As you can see there are a few changes. The biggest and most obvious one is that I’ve switched from Blogger to TypePad. So far it’s been pretty good, though I’m still going to be updating and tweeking things for the next little while. I would appreciate any advice on how to make it better. I might actually use the comments section of this post to ask how to fix things as well.

Other changes include the colors and header. I played around with a bunch of different solutions and decided that I wanted to keep it simple and clean. The purpose of a blog is the reading so I’ve tried to make everything else fade into the background. Another change is the fact that the URL is now www.nine-moons.com (no more .blogspot stuff). Also, being in TypePad I now have recent comments, a feature I enjoy.

One of the most important changes is that I am going to start having more guest posts. I am in discussions with a few different people that can bring some interesting insight and will ask some good questions. I’m looking forward to it.

I hope this change isn’t too much of an inconvenience to anyone that will have to update their links or browser favorites. Thanks for your participation in these wonderful discussions we have over here.

  1. There are obviously still a number of things I have to update (my dad still has to be added as a contributor, I have to add all the bloggernacle links, I need to get the MA agrigator on here, etc.) so please let me know of anything I’m missing that a good blog needs. Thanks.

  2. Congrats! Lookin good.

The difference between text and hyperlinks is to small for me to differentiate them. Also, It might be helpful to have a change in text when you place your mouse over them (like getting underlined or something).

  3. Maybe also you can organize your links alphabetically, so that BCC and KB always come before Millennial Star and T&S.

  4. Congrats on the move. I’ll have to update my links, but it looks sharp, though the font seems to have shrunk a size.

  5. Nice look. Nice pastel colors. Tiny print.

    Comment by Dave — June 11, 2005 @ 12:51 pm

  6. It is only tiny print in IE, you microsoft slaves!

  7. Don’t you guys know the first rule of graphic design? The smaller the type is, the better it looks. (if this really is too small and difficult to read, I’ll change it. But you’ll have to let me know, otherwise I’m keeping it.)

    Comment by Rusty — June 11, 2005 @ 1:03 pm

  8. Yes, the type is too small.

This is a nice upgrade Rusty!

  9. Type looks great!

    Comment by Steve Evans — June 11, 2005 @ 2:32 pm

  10. I would also point out that your BCC link is incorrect (points to the old site)

    Comment by Steve Evans — June 11, 2005 @ 2:33 pm

  11. I get a little confused when links are different color after I have followed them (green vs. blue)

    Comment by J. Stapley — June 11, 2005 @ 3:41 pm

  12. Comment numberss and comment permalinks would be sweet as well.

You can tell me to shut up at any time.

  13. I’m using Firefox …

  14. http://www.ninemoons.typepad.com — means you had to spring for the mapping. I’ve been thinking of doing a negotiation blog (I need to get started writing a book on the topic, and thought that might channel me) and I’ve been looking at variou solutions.

I’m cheap, of course, and not in a hurry, but am looking at what other people did and what it cost them and why they made the decisions they did.

  15. Rusty, this is beautiful. I really like it. When you switch over, is it possible to transport all previous posts with their comments when you do so?

Am I the last of the MA with an old-fashioned blogger blog? Wait, Ronan’s still got his, but he’s a permablogger at BCC.

  16. John Fowles, don’t forget Justin! You can transfer Blogger posts/comments to WordPress really easy. Both New Cool Thang and FMH did it. I’ve never done it for Typepad before, but the link I gave up above says you can do it.

    Comment by J. Stapley — June 11, 2005 @ 4:21 pm

  17. My posts were easily transfered but the comments aren’t because I had Haloscan comments (doh!). So I’m trying to figure out what to do. Maybe just do a copy and paste the entire comment thread into one comment on each post. Unless anyone has a better suggestion.

J, your input is great, please offer as much as you want. I’ve got a lot left to do, it’s time I just don’t have a ton of right now. You’re right, comment numbers and permalinks would be great… how do you do it?

    Comment by Rusty — June 11, 2005 @ 5:17 pm

  18. Here is a link on transfering haloscan comments:

You’ll have to ask steve about the comment stuff (sorry).

    Comment by J. Stapley — June 11, 2005 @ 5:30 pm

  19. Rusty, I can walk you through the comment no. and permalink stuff if you email me. It’s pretty easy (if you are a super-genius).

    Comment by Steve Evans — June 11, 2005 @ 9:17 pm

  20. Ahhh…a much better logo. ;)

Don’t worry about what those gentiles; they don’t understand that small type is the new black.

  21. Print is tiny on Safari also. We aged and infirm (nearly blind) can correct that by using control + (or command + on apple). Looks good.

  22. Looks good!

  23. It looks like there is a seious problem with your MA links list too…

    Comment by Geoff J — June 12, 2005 @ 6:54 pm

  24. Geoff,
Oops, sorry man. It’s fixed now.
