The Milton Glaser Exhibition at BYU’s Museum of Art

Rusty - September 7, 2006

Design icon Milton Glaser currently has an exhibition called Just Enough Is More: The Graphic Design Of Milton Glaser at BYU’s Museum of Art. At SVA Milton was my thesis advisor, teacher and mentor. Not only is he brilliant but also funny and kind. If you live in Utah it would be well worth your time to visit the museum and see the exhibit before October 7th. His wisdom and insight into the world of art, design and life is vast and I think you’d walk away uplifted.

By the way, this is a significant exhibition for BYU. Because designers mostly work in the background (as opposed to artists who are as well-known as their art) it’s difficult to communicate how important Milton Glaser is to modern design without comparing him to an artist like Renoir or Matisse. You ask any designer to name a designer and Milton will be one of the first three named. A big congrats to BYU for bringing him in and making it work.

Also, see here for an interesting podcast (regarding the BYU show) and fantastic videos with Milton.

  1. When were you at SVA? My brother-in-law was in the ad/design program there.

  4. So you had only recently moved to NYC when you first started your blog? Or were you still at SVA?

  5. Nope, don’t know Greg Welch. SVA is in NYC so I moved out here four months before school started (Fall 2003). I think I started my blog a year after that.

  7. Rusty, I happened to see a brief deal on the Glaser exhibit on BYU TV a few days ago. I gues the exhibit had just opened. I thought it was very interesting. If I make it down to the theater before Oct. 7th I will go. I would have gone, just from what I saw on TV it was so interesting. I didn’t know you knew him, but I should have expected that you would know the best.

  9. I peek at this website once in a while and caught this blog. Good for Rusty! I actually work at the museum of art at BYU, so I don’t miss a single exibit. This one is a little out of our norm and i’m glad it’s here. We also have interesting photography by C. Hofer and in November will install an awesome exibit, “Beholding Salvation: Images of Christ” – just in time for Christmas i suppose. So I’ll echo Rusty and also give you the recommendation of a student employee and say come see these exibits!

  10. For anyone interested, there’s a Lecture tonight regarding this gallery at 7pm. I believe the artist himself will be attending, but no promises.
